Since it was opened in 2007, the down to earth baristas at The Common Cup have aimed to serve high quality food and craft coffee drinks to the best neighborhood in Chicago. For twelve years the owners, Ruth and John Hoekwater, provided a safe place for Rogers Park community members to come together and enjoy good food and good company.

In November 2019, The Common Cup was purchased by Entrenuity, a non-profit business dedicated to training and assisting entrepreneurs. Entrenuity hopes to continue what Ruth and John started by maintaining a coffee shop for the people of Rogers Park to enjoy.
